1. INT. THE BENSONS’ HOME OFFICE – DAY
Mr. Benson comes in and sits at the desk. His wife joins him.
MRS. BENSON
Oh, you are back from the interview? So soon? How was it?
MR. BENSON
Hmmm… (Nods)
MRS. BENSON
Why are you nodding your head? I said how did the interview go?
MR. BENSON
Hmm…God! Why must my life be like this? Hmm! Why?
MRS. BENSON
Wait…wait…wait, don’t tell me it’s the same old story.
MR. BENSON
Hmm…my dear, I don’t understand what’s going on.
MRS. BENSON
(Loud) How can you understand? You are an unfortunate being; good for nothing! I don’t know how I ended up with a man like you! (Hisses)
MR. BENSON
You know things were not this way when we got married! Why are you talking like this?
MRS. BENSON
Don’t tell me that trash! Useless man! Good for nothing! (Walks away)
MR. BENSON
(Lost in thought) Hmm…
2. INT. PASTOR’S OFFICE – DAY
Mr. and Mrs. Benson sit before the Pastor.
MR. BENSON
(Sobs) Pastor, I don’t know why things are like this. What have I done wrong? Who did I offend? Where did I go wrong?
MRS. BENSON
(Sobs) Pastor, sincerely, I don’t understand what’s happening to my family. We were living comfortably until everything started to change. My husband lost his lucrative job. He is constantly turned down at job interviews. For one year, we’ve been depending on my monthly salary – and I’m only a secondary school teacher. We’ve fasted and prayed, we’ve gone for
deliverance, yet, it seems God is deaf to our pleas. I don’t know where my unfortunate husband got his bad luck. If I knew that he had such bad luck, I wouldn’t have married him!
PASTOR
Goodness! Sister Esther! What are you saying? You are calling your husband unfortunate?
MR. BENSON
Pastor, that’s what she calls me; morning, afternoon, and night. Even when I make a slight mistake, she calls me all sorts of names.
PASTOR
Hmm…I see where the problem is coming from… thank you Holy Spirit… God did not turn deaf ears to your pleas. You are eating the fruit of your tongue.
MR. BENSON
The fruit of our tongue? How?
PASTOR
Hmm…Sis Esther, do you know that your mouth is the cause of what’s happening to your husband?
MRS. BENSON
My mouth? How?
PASTOR
Death and life are in the power of the tongue. You are one flesh with your husband; those negative names you call him are affecting him. You are a Christian. Bless your husband instead of cursing him. Sister Esther! Your husband may be going through these challenges but as his wife, it’s your responsibility to bless and support him, not add to his problems.
MRS. BENSON
Dear, I’m really sorry. I repent of cursing you. I pray that you are not unfortunate. May the Lord bless you and break all your boundaries! Success is your portion in Jesus’ name.
MR. BENSON
Amen!
MRS. BENSON
I’m very sorry!
MR. BENSON
(Smiles) It’s okay… (Turns to Pastor) thank you very much, Sir.
A week later, Mr. Benson gets a lucrative job with a big company and they live comfortably.
