So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall!
— 1 Corinthians 10:12
It is said that “you are here today and tomorrow you are not.” You may have seen articles and videos titled, “Where are they now?” Celebrities, both in the secular world and even in Christendom all find themselves at this junction at one time in their lives, careers, and calling. One day they were the most searched on the internet; number 1 on the music charts; getting awards from everywhere and then suddenly, everything goes quiet.
You began the year on a promising note and had a list of what you wanted to achieve. Beloved, maybe like most of us, you planned this year well, but you look back and realize that things did not go as planned. Instead, they fell apart. Maybe your health, finances, relationships, business, and many things that are dear to you began to show cracks and before you knew it, you had little to nothing left to hold unto. As a result, your prayer life began to diminish. You have been through hell and back; you are surrounded by situations that seem to never end. You ask yourself, “How did I get here again? How did I get to this point in my life? Why am I suffering? Why are my dreams and hopes crashing before my eyes? Why is my family falling apart?” So many questions, but little to no answers. You feel sorry for yourself and ask why God did not prevent these bad things from happening to you. You can’t find the strength to get up from the ash heap you have been buried in. You breathe in pain and spend your days depressed and your nights drenching your pillows with tears before drifting to sleep. Eventually, you shut God out.
You ask yourself, “How did I get here? To a place where I shut God out and made pain my company? How did I get to a place where prayer became burdensome? How did I once again get disconnected from God?”
Beloved, do not let the enemy plague you with guilt, building the walls separating you and God higher and stronger. It is not over for you! You will rise again! Micah 7: 7 encourages you to “look unto the Lord; wait for the God of your salvation, for He will hear you.” Scream very loudly this truth in verse 8, “Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me.” Hallelujah!!!
Do not let situations turn you away from God. Instead, let them turn you to Him. When you love the Lord, you would still hold on to Him regardless of how many things are taken away from your life. Child of God, get up and live again! Breathe again. Love again…like God (without expectations), rejoice, learn through the process, and hold your head up high because greater is Jesus in you than anything or anyone that stays or leaves your life. No matter how out of order your life may seem, know that God is in full control, and He will perfect all that concerns you. Keep standing firm, leaning on Him. Do not shut yourself away from brothers and sisters in the Fold, that the Lord has sent to support you. Your end has not come, it is a new dawn for the Lord shall do a new thing, and you shall live to see it.
Remember, in the cycle of life, storms are inevitable. When they come, hold tightly to God so that you do not get swept away. May the Lord wipe away your tears, fill your heart with His peace and joy, and restore your hope.
