The movie, LEGION, written and directed by Damilola Mike-Bamiloye, is powerful!
It was an unforgettable 95 minutes, chock-full with great lessons. The following stood out to me.
There are many “mad” people in our society today and even in the church. Anyone that hasn’t accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior is a “mad man.” Even those that are in the church of God and have backslidden or abandoned the ways of the Lord are all mad persons.
2 Corinthians 6:14-16 says,
“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God.”
Many Christians have forgotten this scripture, and some have it only as head knowledge.
Be careful what and who you give your attention to. We are in the information age, and it’s very easy to be misled by social media. The kind of people you follow on social media, the kind of pages you like, and even the kind of company you keep around you can lead you astray. This is why 1 Corinthians 15:33 reminds us that bad company corrupts good character.
Avoid Missionary dating at all cost. Missionary dating/ courtship is being in a relationship with an unbeliever with the hope and purpose of converting them to Christ. It’s very easy for someone on a tree to be pulled down by the person under the tree; whereas it’s difficult for the person under the tree to be pulled up by the person on the tree. As Christians, we should understand we are the ones on the tree; it’s very easy for unbelievers to pull us down than for us to pull them up. All we have to do is preach the gospel and allow the Holy Spirit to do the conviction. Accepting a marriage proposal from an unbeliever with the mindset of winning them over is very dangerous. It leads to compromise.
Submission to governing authorities is important. Let everyone be subject to governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. God established the authorities that exist (Romans 13:1). One of these authorities is parents. God reveals certain things about you to them, and if you refuse to listen, it leads to destruction. Great blessings come your way when you listen to your parents’ godly counsel. Ephesians 6:1-3 says, “Obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. Honor your father and mother, which is the first commandment with a promise. So that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy a long life on the earth.”
Never doubt the power of prayer. It is vital in a Christian’s life. Jesus often withdrew to pray. A prayerless Christian is a powerless Christian. Parents must never stop praying for their children regardless of their age. Even the young ones should start praying for their unborn children. Hannah consecrated Samuel to the Lord even before he was born (1 Samuel 1:11). Samuel indeed served God and God used him greatly in Israel. May God raise many Hannahs in our time in Jesus’ name. Amen. The power of a praying parent cannot be overemphasized, but it is equally important for the youth to have a vibrant prayer life that will keep them close to God, sensitive to the Holy Spirit, and protected from the wiles of the enemy. Prayer needs to be a lifestyle.
God never fails those who put their trust in Him. Psalms 125:1 says, “Those who put their trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion which cannot be shaken but endures forever.” If you feel like giving up on the race that has been set before you, be encouraged! God rewards the righteous. He rewards us here on earth and at the end of the race, we will receive crowns. Through trying moments, God never abandons His children. Look at some cases in the Bible: Joseph became the Prime Minister of Egypt when he came out of prison (Genesis 41). Apostle Paul wrote edifying Epistles while in jail. John the Revelator was also sent to prison and even exiled (Revelation 1:9-11) and this was where God gave him the records in the book of Revelation.
God loves you and will never abandon you! Those who surrender their lives to Jesus are victorious in all things.
“For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God” (1 John 5:4-5).
