Ephesian 5: 25 (NKJV) – ‘Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her.’
Many husbands want their wives to be full of virtues like the Biblical prototype in Proverbs 31. However, they are not willing to play the role of the proverb 31 husband to their wives. In many cases, the negligence and insensitivity of the husband has destroyed the virtues the wife had before marriage. God wants your attitude towards your wife to be dominated by kindness, tenderness and high sensitivity which can greatly bring a change in your difficult wife. You have to be an initiator of change by sowing the seed of affection and love continuously.
Proverbs 31:11– ”The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain.”
Proverbs 31:23 – ”Her husband is known in the gates, when he sits among the elders of the land.”
Proverbs 31: 28b – “…and he praises her:”
These scriptures show the contributions of the husband in making her a virtuous woman. She would not have achieved all that was recorded had her husband failed to play his role as a husband and father to their children.
Can you as a husband answer these questions:
– What do you offer your wife to aid her growth and fulfillment?
– Have you ever thought of what your wife needs to make her happy and fulfilled?
– Are you doing what could make your wife happy and fulfilled?
The happiness and fulfilment of every wife in a marriage largely depend on the husband. Genesis 3:16c – To the woman, He said: “… Your desire shall be for your husband,….” There is a vacuum in the soul of every woman that can only be filled by the husband. Therefore, a woman needs the attention of her husband.
Ephesians 5:25 tells us how a husband should love his wife. Jesus Christ gave himself for the church. Love is more than feelings. Feelings can change (Matt 19: 3, II Sam 13: 15). Love is a commitment — giving and serving (II Corinthians. 13:4-8, Songs of Solomon 8:6).
Watch out for Part 2 which outlines practical ways to love your wife…
