What will become of a headless body – a body without a head, a woman without her husband? Or vice versa, a bodiless head – a head without a body, a man without his wife?
The human body consists of the head (brain, sensory organs, neck) and the body (upper limbs, lower limbs, and abdomen). The husband is the head; the wife is the body.
The head contains the brain which controls speech, language, vision, memory, movement, coordination, hearing, recognition, etc. Also the head contains major sensory organs – eyes, nose, tongue, ears -that transport information for interpretation to and from the head and the body through the nerves.
The head instructs and coordinates activities while the body receives and carries out instructions; both work in perfect harmony as one whole body.
One Whole-Body Working Harmoniously
Just as we have seen the harmonious togetherness of the head and body, so also is the harmony of husband and wife. The husband is the head while the wife is the body.
The body cannot function without the head coordinating affairs, while the head cannot coordinate without the body to carry out instructions.
When the husband and wife break this harmonious design instituted by God, problems and chaos arise. For a time, they may seem to be doing okay, but it’s only a matter of time before destruction and death occur.
“Behold how good and how pleasant for brethren (husband/wife) to dwell together” Psalm 133:1.
“Therefore they shall no longer be two, but one” Matthew 19:6. The coming together of man and woman to become husband and wife is a spiritual union that God has designed and He blesses them if they apply His principle of oneness. The blessing is not only enjoyed by the couple. It spreads to the children and generations to come; to the body of Christ; and in the ministry that God has placed in the hands of the couple.
