[bigletter]Some believers now use the unbelievers’ marriage as the gold standard. Because of social media glamor, they forget their true identity. They forget the standards set in the Scriptures. They hold these glamorized social media couples in high esteem. So, when the unbelievers’ marriage eventually crashes, the believer says there is “no more true love.”[/bigletter]
I hear people say that some unbelievers have great homes. Take your time and study the numerous cases of marital failures amongst unbelievers. Take your time and study the lifestyle of their children. A home or marriage isn’t a success until the children are well brought up in the way of the Lord and begin to fulfill their God-given purpose on earth.
Marriage is part of God’s system for kingdom expansion. You are expected to train your children in the way of the Lord so that they can in turn spread the good news and raise their own children in the way of the Lord.
Our happiness and satisfaction as Christian couples lie in us fulfilling our purpose and raising purposeful and kingdom-minded children.
Some Christian youths are now convinced that traveling around the world taking couple selfies exemplifies a successful marriage. This is far from the Godly standards that the Scriptures reveal to us. Believers must understand that they have a divine mandate.
There are lots of kingdom marriages out there that serve as a source of hope for the believer. It’s okay to learn from these marriages rather than from the unbeliever’s marriage. But in addition, you must not copy anyone’s marriage no matter who they are. Rather, pray for God to lead in the specifics of your own marriage. God has a plan for your marriage. Let God be the architect of your marriage.
If you’re not yet married, trust Him to give you someone who loves you and with whom you will fulfill His mandate for your life. If you’re already married but have not made God the center of your marriage, it is not too late. If love seems to have left your marriage, go to God. Ask Him to help you reprioritize the important things in your marriage. As you seek to love God and obey His will for your marriage, you will find renewed love between you and your spouse. This is the love that lasts. This is true love.
