Wait, Was he Showing Off?

No! He could never show off, but why would he say that? This was no joke, you know. It happened like this…

The building was full of people; some listening to the Word of truth, others seeking miracles. All eyes fastened on him as if he were their only hope.

It was in the pre- COVID-19 era when there was no social distancing, yet there was no space to get in. Commoners and elite, poor and rich, young and old were all present at what seemed to be a really special program.

A paralyzed man couldn’t find his way in, and his friends were so desperate that they did the unthinkable: they removed the roof without permission and lowered the man in. He needed instant healing.

The preacher spoke, “Your sins are forgiven.”

Haba! Who does that? We know where to go to offer sacrifice for forgiveness. “Sir, what we need is a healing miracle right now!”

The confused elites wondered, “What great blasphemy…! You, a mere carpenter’s son. Who are you to forgive sin?”

He calmly let them know that the Son of Man also has the power on earth to forgive sins. “Take up your bed and walk.” And the man was healed.

He did not do this to prove a point or to show off, but to establish that the forgiveness of sins in the soul is much more important than the healing of the body. Who even knew the cause of the sickness?

Does He care only about the soul? No! He cares for both, but as valuable as healing of the body is, the body will one day decay. Healing of the soul (forgiveness, liberation from chains of guilt and darkness) is eternal.

This body is temporal; value your soul, value eternity, reframe your mind with the help of the Holy Spirit. See beyond the present,

see through the lens of God.
